Steve Pierce

Steve Pierce pictureSteve studied Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan with the hope of engaging in research on controlled thermonuclear fusion as a safer and more environmentally friendly way to generate electricity. However when he learned that he would first have to work in the dangerous Nuclear Power Industry or intern with the Defense Department making bombs before even being considered for such research, he abandoned the program. Disillusioned at how science had been commandeered by military and corporate interests he instead began a career in the more benign Fashion Industry, where he continues earn his livelihood to this day as a tailor. But he never lost his interest in science or his concern for the environment, and as Climate Change became more evident he felt he had do something to raise awareness of this growing threat. Since the term Global Warming seemed too abstract to take personally, he thought that its impact would be better understood by revealing what it was like for people who actually lived through it – the characters in this, his first novel. Their struggle illustrates a future we may all face if we fail to take steps to stop it, and their triumphs and losses are in many ways our own. Steve now lives in Southern California where he drives a high-mileage vehicle to reduce Greenhouse Gases and otherwise treads lightly on the planet with his husband of 20 years and their cat.
